We have just started to plan our 2011-15 Sport and Physical Activity Strategy. Whether you are a coach, a public official, a parent or a young person, we want to hear from you. We are asking for your opinions about sport and physical activity in the area.
What are the strengths and weaknesses? What should we be doing? What should our priorities be for 2011-16?
We are asking people people to complete out initial survey.
This will be open until the end of September. We will then produce a draft Strategy and ask for your views again.
Why bother? Our Strategy will determine our priorities - where we spend our money and where we devote most time.
If you want to view our current Strategy and see what we are doing to implement it, the relevant documents are here.

Barrow Sports Council recently launched an appeal for unwanted sports kit to send to villages and townships in Malawi. The appeal is for any full team strips - football, rugby, netball, hockey, volleyball or any other team sport. The only condition is that they need to be for a full team.

Barrow Sports Council Chair Tony Callister handing over the first two strips for Barry Doughty to send to Malawi.

and here's our first rugby strip from Walney Cents....

and we also got some football, rugby and netball kit from the 6th Form College!

Thanks to everyone - keep them coming.
If you have a strip to give away, they can be left with Barrow Sports Council at the Nan Tait Centre, Abbey Road or ring Emma on 407319 or Derek on 407575.
If you have any sports acttivities open to the general public, we can promote them in our weekly email, on What's happening and on our calendar. Our weekly email goes out directly to over 1000 people every week. We know that many people forward this to friends, club members and work colleagues. Other websites also share our calendar.
So if you've got anything on, we can promote it to hundreds of people for free. Just email Emma your activity, the date, time, venue, cost and contact details and we'll do the rest.
We welcome new nominations for members of the Sports Council from local clubs all year round. So if you want to join us, don't wait for our next AGM in November 2010. You can nominate a member now. Click here to open the nomination form!
