Sports Hub Administrator
Hello, my name is Stuart Meredith and I have recently joined Furness College as a Sports Hub Administrator. My job is to put on sport courses and workshops for coaches/volunteers/clubs in the local area and the college. This also includes anyone who is a keen sports person or has knowledge of a sport and wishes to pass on their knowledge by becoming a coach. With this in mind I hope to increase and develop the number of coaches and volunteers in the area. I will also be working closely with the Barrow Sports Council Team and the Sports Development Officer – Chris Athersmith. In regards to putting on workshops / courses, I plan to help clubs work towards the club mark accreditation.
To help me find out what I can do for you as coaches, volunteers or new comers we have put together a questionnaire. This questionnaire asks about information about what qualifications you have and/or what courses you would like to see ran locally.
This space be will updated from time to time to advertise training workshops and courses in the area, so keep checking!
Regards,
Sports Hub Administrator - Furness College
Get Qualified in Lancashire and Cumbria
In collaboration with the County Sport Partnerships of Lancashire and Cumbria and with continuing support from SkillsActive, the University of Cumbria has been awarded £250,000 by Sport England to support the growth of training and skills in the sports sector, including outdoor sports. Over the next two years, the ‘Get Qualified’ programme aims to assist in the development of a quality sport workforce across these two counties and ultimately help to increase participation in sport and active leisure in local communities.
Get Qualified is aimed at individuals over 16 years of age working or volunteering in sport at clubs or organisations striving towards professionalism, within Cumbria or Lancashire. It enables individuals to apply to the University and, if eligible, receive support towards certain up-to-the minute skills and recognised qualifications. There is an obligation for individuals to deliver a minimum of 15 hours volunteering in return for the support that they receive.
The Project can fund 40% of L1-L3 Coaching courses with a maximum contribution of £250 and applicants should refer to www.cumbria.ac.uk/getqualified for more information.
