Laura Jones has been recognised by Barrow Borough Sports Council for her sporting achievement, by the Performance of the Month Award. In the picture Laura can be seen receiving her certificate from John Sherwen of Barrow Borough Sports Council and a £50 cheque from Steve Knott, of Furness Heating Components Ltd (award sponsors).
In November, Laura competed in the British Schools Orienteering Championships at Linlithgow. In a vastly experienced and competitive field, Laura became the British Champion at Class G13 (under 18) level, making her the top Under 18 orienteer in the Country. In doing so, Laura also won the best tertiary college competing for Barrow Sixth Form College. This was her last attempt before leaving Barrow 6th Form College to go to university. Laura has competed in the National Schools Championships every year since she was in Year 7 and it is a fitting end to her school career that she gained the Gold medal.
Jack Dixon has been recognised by Barrow Borough Sports Council for his sporting achievement, by winning October’s Performance of the Month Award. In October, Jack, now aged 19yrs, became under 21 European Shotokan Kata Champion at the WUKF 2nd European Championships for Children, Cadets and Juniors. The competition was held in the city of Gyor in Hungary and attracted just short of 1,500 competitors from 23 different countries.

Gary Powell has been recognised by Barrow Borough Sports Council for his sporting achievement, by winning September’s Performance of the Month Award. In the September high winds, Gary became the 2011 UK speed kitesurfing champion and shot to 18th in the world rankings for 2011, only to be beaten into 2nd and 19th respectively the day after by the current and 4 times reigning UK champion. The speed achieved were 10 second average of 39.87 knots, top 2 second speed of 46.52 knots and 500m average of 37.83. Gary will be competing in Weymouth speed week from 15th Oct hoping to take a pro win to follow up on his overall novice win last year.
Jeff Moses has been recognised by Barrow Borough Sports Council for his sporting achievement, by winning August’s Performance of the Month Award. In August, Jeff took part in the Total Warrior 10k challenge in Penrith. Total Warrior challenges are not your standard trail runs. The Total Warrior team has worked with ex-military personnel to bring the ultimate test of strength, stamina, agility and mental determination. The unforgiving Lake District terrain along with specially designed hardcore obstacles, means success is about survival and not speed.
Jeff came 15th overall, out of 1,559 registered participants and came 1st in the veteran (Male 10k 40+) category. This shows Jeff's determination in proving fitness can continue at all age levels. This also proves that he still leads from the front when it comes to personal fitness for his boxers he trains at Barrow Amateur Boxing Club.

Yarlside Primary School Football Team has been recognised by Barrow Borough Sports Council for their sporting achievement,
by winning July’s Performance of the Month Award. In the picture they can be seen receiving their certificate

In July, Yarlside Primary School Football Team won the primary schools 8-a-side cup for the very first time
in the school's history. 16 schools originally entered the competition.
The boys also finished runners-up in the 8-a-side league and runners up in this season's 7-a-side county finals
held in Carlisle.
Not just during the 8-a-side competition, but throughout the whole season, the boys have played extremely well
as a team and have practised playing football together since reception class.
Cumbria Cascades Junior Entertaining Troupe have been recognised by Barrow Borough Sports Council for their
sporting achievement, by winning June’s Performance of the Month Award. In the picture they can be seen

In June, Cumbria Cascades Junior Troupe have won 1st place in their last three competitions.
They compete against teams from all over the North West. Their troupe leader, Holly Price has also been awarded
best leader in each of these competitions. The competitions were held at Oldham, Fleetwood and also at Oldham Carnival.

Sarah Jones has been recognised by Barrow Borough Sports Council for her sporting achievement,

In May, Sarah, St.Bernard’s Year 10 pupil, competed in the Women's Junior Long Distance Orienteering
Championships in Sheffield. Sarah beat the field to become Under 16 British Champion. Also recently,
Sarah has become British Orienteering Sprint Race Champion.

Emily Bolton has been recognised by Barrow Borough Sports Council for her sporting achievement,
by winning April’s Performance of the Month Award.

In April, Emily became the National Doubles Champion (U14s) at the National Table Tennis Championships.
Also at the same Championships, she was runner up in U13 individuals and a semi finalist in U14s.
Also this month, Emily has also come second in English Schools Individual Championships and has had her third
English Schools call-up to play for England in the Senior Schools International, to be held in June. Emily
has also just had an invitation from the ETTA to play for England at U15 level in the Cadet 6 Nations to be
held in Dusseldorf in June. She will be playing against teams from Germany, France, Holland, Sweden and Denmark.

Barrow Table Tennis Club has been recognised by Barrow Borough Sports Council for their sporting achievement,
by winning Performance of the Month Award.
The Club clinched the British Premier League title, by playing at Middlesborough and beating London Progress in their
morning match 6-2 and Fusion-London also 6-2, in their afternoon match.
This is the highest league for table tennis in Great Britain. Next season they will now be competing in Europe.

Jamie Warriner has been recognised by Barrow Borough Sports Council for his sporting achievement, by winning February’s Performance of the Month Award. In February, Jamie, 11 yr old Barrow ASC swimmer returned from the 2011 DSE Junior national swimming championships at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge swimming pool, with a total of 12 medals and the trophy for top male performance (age group ‘A’).
The St Bernard’s Catholic High school pupil prepared well for this year’s championships training with Barrow ASC and attending British disability swimming world class talent camps. This is the 3rd year Jamie has competed at the national event and each year has increased his medal haul. This year Jamie won 6 Gold’s in 50 Back, 100 IM, 200 IM, 50 Butterfly, 100 Butterfly and 4x100 medley relay. 6 Silvers in 100 Backstroke, 50 Breast, 100 Breast, 50 free, 100 Free, 400 Free. A total of 10 personal bests were also achieved.

Hawcoat Park Junior Colts have been recognised by Barrow Borough Sports Council for their sporting achievement, by winning January’s Performance of the Month Award. Hawcoat Parks performance of the season was away to second place Prenton in the Raging Bull Colts League to clinch the league title with four games to go. This was a superb performance and has earned the squad a nomination for entrance into the National U17 cup remaining unbeaten. This is the first time ever that a Barrow team has won this league.

Holy Family won the Furness School Sports Partnership's annual Year 5 Indoor
Aviva Sportshall Athletics Finals, held at D.A.S.H on Sunday the 5th December 2010. 72 children took part from 6 schools
(Holy Family, Dane Ghyll, Yarlside, George Romney, St Mary's RC and Vickerstown).
Holy Family won by a very comfortable margin in the end.

Duddon Youth Wild Water Racing Team have been recognised by Barrow Borough Sports Council for their sporting achievement,
by winning November’s Performance of the Month Award.

The 2010 Wild Water Racing season ended in a blaze of glory on the River Irwell at Bury on Sunday 13th November.
Nine of the youth team were able to make the trip and paddled their hearts out in high water levels to regain the
National Youth Championship Trophy last held by Duddon Youth in 2008. This was also the last race of the Northern
Wild Water Racing series which we regained from a strong Oakwood team. Oakwood were leading the series at the start
of the day but a brave effort from all, but especially the 3 girls, gave us the edge and we came out on top of the
leader board. Team members also picked up 5 first and 5 second places in the age group awards.

Brett McDermott has been recognised by Barrow Borough Sports Council for his sporting achievement, by winning October’s Performance of the Month Award. In October, Brett represented Ireland. He put in a long stint for Ireland as they went down 58-24 to the French in their European Cup opener. Brett impressed those watching from the near 15,000-strong crowd enough to be offered a deal in the French League. Brett played the majority of the 80 minutes in France, with injury to other forwards meaning cover was not there for him to come off the field as usual.
In September, power puncher Liam started Barrow Amateur Boxing Club's season in fantastic fashion with victory in Bolton. The impressive youngster showed why he is highly thought of with victory over Anthony Grimshaw of Bolton Elite ABC.
Favourite Grimshaw is the reigning Senior Novice Champion, while Liam has just turned a senior boxer, but that gulf in experience did not tell. It was a competitive bout from the bell, Conroy taking the fight to Grimshaw and not allowing the taller man to use his extensive reach. The Barrow fighter worked some strong shots to the body and dictated the bout throughout the first 2 rounds. Despite strong efforts by Grimshaw in the final round, Conroy outclassed him and took the victory by a unanimous decision.

Furness CC reached their second successive County Cup Final, where they played local rivals Barrow CC, who play in a league higher than Furness. However, this was not to deter Furness as they ran out winners to retain the cup.
